Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga - Deputy of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thai Binh Province, said: “Thai Binh Province currently has 4,283 hectares of coastal forests, of which mainly are protective forests and special-use forests with mangroves predominating. Mangrove forests play an important role in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity; blocking waves; protecting coastal areas, dykes, infrastructure, houses, aquaculture lagoons, the lives of coastal residents; and contributing to the response to global climate change and sea level rise.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Deputy Director of the Thai Binh Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development delivered the opening speech.

In order to actively implement the management, protection, planting, and afforestation, the People's Committee of Thai Binh Province has issued many plans for afforestation and tree planting in the province.

Following the direction of the Prime Minister, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) will plant 15,000 cork trees, equivalent to 75 hectares of forests in the coastal alluvial areas of Thai Thuy district: Thuy Truong, Thuy Xuan, and Thuy Hai. The afforestation will be carried out in several phases, expected to reach 50,000 trees by 2025.

“This is a practical and meaningful action to help maintain and strengthen the coastal protection forest system, contributing to the successful implementation of the plan to plant trees in Thai Binh Province in the 2021-2025 period.” Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga said

The representatives of the commune’s officials also expressed their sincere thanks to the sponsor PVEP and the district leadership for choosing Thuy Hai commune as the launching point for the tree-planting plan. Mangrove forests play an important role in reducing gas emissions. Therefore, PVEP will sponsor 50,000 trees in Thai Binh Province at a cost of about 4 billion VND. Besides, PVEP will continue to implement the plan to plant trees in many other provinces and cities, focusing on areas where the cost is low and the forest can grow well in the long term. PVEP believes that the forests will be preserved and grown, bringing many benefits to the locality and the country.”
