PVEP ORGANIZES MEANINGFUL EVENTS IN CELEBRATION OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
On June 09, 2017, in Vung Tau, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) held a "PVEP Day - For a Sustainable Environment" event, with many meaningful activities including: tree planting ceremony, parade, picking up litle, cleaning up the beach in celebration of World Environment Day 2017. This is also part of a series of events commemorating the 10th Anniversary of PVEP (04/5/2007- 04/5/2017).
Present at the event were Mr. Hoang Vu Thanh – Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vung Tau; Mr. Nguyen Dang Minh - Standing Vice Secretary of the Party's Committee of Vung Tau; leaders representing Vung Tau, leaders of the city's Departments, municipal administration, and local populace. The program also saw the attendance of representatives of PetroVietnam (PVN) and the Health Safety Division.
Representing PVEP were Dr. Ngo Huu Hai – Party cell Vice Secretary ad interim, CEO of PVEP; leaders of the Party cell standing committee, Board of Directors, the Executive Board, leaders of sociopolitical organizations, leaders and staff of PVEP-HCM, PVEP subsidiaries and joint operation partners: PVEP POC, Cuu Long, Hoang Long Hoan Vu, Thang Long, Lam Son, Con Son, JVPC, VRJ.
PVEP's activities celebrating the World Environment Day are held annually. With the wish to organize meaningful and practical activities, on the occassion of the 10th Anniversary of the Corporation, PVEP selected Vung Tau - a locality that has long been dear to not only PVEP, and its activities but also that of the whole oil and gas sector - to be the host to its event. With approval from the municipal government, and the support of local deparments, the activities were broad in scope: a row of big trees along the the City's Temple to Unnamed soldiers; parade along roads from Thuy Van flag tower to the top of Nghinh Phong cape; cleaning up of the beach around the Nghinh Phong cape. Nearly 200 members took part in the distribution of environmentally-friendly trash bags to the local population to raise environmental protection awareness for the community. All participants took part in the incense-lighting and commemoration ceremony of unnamed soldiers who gave their lives for national independence at the City's Temple to Unnamed Soldiers.
The activities were successful, and have left profound impressions on participants and helped to communicate this year's World Environment Day message of "Connecting People to Nature" as well as PVEP's strong committments and policy to observe the most stringent regulations, standards on environment protection and acting responsibly for a sustainable environment.
Working with the community to protect the environment, responding to the impacts of climate change, taking course of actions and utilizing machineries that best protect the environment during operation is a recognition closely linked to PVEP's operations. PVEP's track record of no environmental mishaps in both its domestic and overseas production over many years have reaffirmed the high importance and good work the Corporation have done in protecting the environment, because, more than ever, PVEP's leadership and members understand the monumental and unforeseeable costs, and the impossibility of redress when safety measures fail, something that all global petroleum magnates have experienced.
PVEP have paid attention to developing a policy and monitoring system of Safety - Health - the Environment, to ensure compliance and good environmental protection practice by contractors in both domestic and overseas operation in accordance with Vietnamese laws and regulations and international norms, to prevent and avoid negative impacts on the environment, and occupational risks. PVEP's staff are trained to have good knowledge of policies, equipped with the necessary skills and are regularly drilled in safety and environmental protection. They are prepared for emergency rescues in all areas of operation. PVEP also applies high environmental standards in energy - fuel consumption and management of wastes, including the use of the most advanced technologies, most optimum solutions in minimizing environmental impacts, prioritizing the application of closed-loop environmental protection technologies. PVEP is among the first companies in Viet Nam to conduct and develop projects according to the clean development mechanism (CDM), observing the Kyoto Protocol and the UNFCCC…
In tandem with the sound observance of safety, health and environment protection regulations in operations, PVEP is always a strong supporter and active advocate of communications about environment protection activities such as Earth Hour, World Environment Day, annual tree planting drives in PVEP's project localities, national parks and conservations such as Ba Vì (Hanoi), East West Boulevard, Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard (HCMC), Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, Nam Cat Tien National Park, beach clean-ups in many coastal provinces nationwide... Thanks to these activities, awareness about protecting the environment, environmentally-responsible behaviors of PVEP's staff are improved, each PVEP member is a model citizen, working with society to protect the environment so that our lives can grow better by the day./.
