ASCOPE successfully organizes 6th Mid-year Meeting of Sub-Committees

From 2nd to 5th August 2022, the 6th Mid-year Meeting of the ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE) Sub-Committees chaired by ASCOPE Secretary General Tran Hong Nam was successfully held in Bangkok, Thailand. Attending the meeting were more than 70 members from the Southeast Asian member countries. The Petrovietnam delegation including members of the Secretariat and representatives of the Group’s Divisions participated in the Sub-Committees.

Overview of the 6th Mid-Year Meeting of ASCOPE Sub-Committees

At the meeting, the ASCOPE Secretariat and the Sub-Committees on Exploration, Production, Gas, Policy Research and Capacity Building updated the work progress according to the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the year 2022 approved by the ASCOPE. In the trend of energy transition, ASCOPE has recently restructured and established a Clean Energy Subcommittee, focusing on 04 main contents: Renewable energy, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), “Green Mobility”.

A number of outstanding issues were discussed by ASCOPE Secretary General Tran Hong Nam and received great attention from the participants, including the completion of the 1st Revision of ASCOPE Decommissioning Guidelines (ADG) Publication (Subcommittee on Exploration and Production), carbon capture and storage (Subcommittee on Policy Research and Capacity Building), energy security (Subcommittee on Gas) and cooperation opportunities in the clean energy sector among ASCOPE members (Clean Energy Working Group).

Attending the meeting, Mr. Harvey Johnstone - the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific presented the proposals for potential cooperation with ASCOPE in the field of clean energy, oil and gas exploration and production and capacity development.

The meeting recognized positive and constructive comments from the participants in order to promote ASCOPE’s activities. ASCOPE Secretary General Tran Hong Nam highly appreciated the contributions of Subcommittee members and country coordinators over the past time. IOGP’s cooperation proposals would be studied and discussed by ASCOPE for realization in the near future.

On the occasion, ASCOPE Secretary General Tran Hong Nam had a meeting with Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, President and CEO of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT), Member of ASCOPE. The Secretary General of ASCOPE updated ASCOPE’s performance results and expressed his thanks to PTT for hosting the 6th Mid-year Meeting of ASCOPE Sub-Committees,

the first meeting held in person since the Covid pandemic occurred. Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon expressed his confidence in the role of the ASCOPE Secretariat in coordinating ASCOPE activities and pledged to continue to actively support ASCOPE in the coming time.
