Dr. Tran Hong Nam graduated Bachelor (Hons I) and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from School of Petroleum Engineering, the University of New South Wales - Sydney, Australia in 2000 and 2004. He then continued lecturing and researching in the prestigious university from 2004 to 2007.

In 2007, he returned to Vietnam and worked for PVEP, seconded to Cuu Long Joint Operating Company as Deputy Manager of Subsurface department.

From 2009 to 2018, as Deputy General Director then General Director of Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company, he participated in founding the new subsidiary of PetroVietnam, directed the challenging HPHT development project to produce the Hai Thach – Moc Tinh gas condensate fields to its First Gas in 2013 that achieved many valuable HSE, project and production milestones along the way.

Dr. Tran Hong Nam is active in scienctific research and innovation. He has authored more than 20 publications and played editor roles in various international journals and conferences in the field of petroleum engineering. He also served as Chairman of SPE Vietnam in 2013-2015. He is currently member of the Party Committee Executive Board of PetroVietnam.

With his experience and expertise in oil & gas industry, on 18 April 2018, PetroVietnam appointed Dr. Tran Hong Nam to Chairman of the Board of PVEP. After 3 years with many outstanding achievements, Dr. Nam is currently President & CEO of PVEP, he is also Secretary-in-charge of ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE).
